How do I insert a menstrual cup?

First, choose a place that suits you. This could be in the toilet, in a bathtub, in a shower, or in bed. The important thing is to feel comfortable and relaxed.

To insert the menstrual cup, spread your labia and gently insert the cup, folded funnel-side down. Once you've located the vaginal opening, insert the cup and rotate it a few times until you feel comfortable. Then slowly release it to allow it to open.

If you're having trouble opening your menstrual cup, first place it at the vaginal opening. Then, gently slide your fingers up to the rim to open it and allow air in if needed. You can then twist it to a comfortable position.

How should I position it?

A menstrual cup sits lower than a tampon. It may shift slightly to find the best position for your anatomy. To prevent leaks, it's important thatThe menstrual cup is positioned either under the cervix or around it.The small stem of the cup should not protrude, or should reach just to the entrance of the vagina in order to avoid any discomfort.

Removing the menstrual cup

The menstrual cup creates a sort of suction effect once it's inserted. Therefore, avoid pulling directly on the stem, as this will create a suction sensation. Instead, squat down and begin pushing with your pelvic floor muscles. The menstrual cup will gradually descend, making it easier to remove.

You need to "peel" the cup. There are 3 ways to do this:

Pinch the bottom of the cup;
Pull the stem gently from one side and then the other;
Insert a finger up to the rim/ridge of the menstrual cup and detach it from the wall.

Menstrual cup care and hygiene rules

For effective and proper use of the menstrual cup, wash your hands before and after handling it. When the menstrual cup is full, remove it and empty it. Before reinserting it, rinse it thoroughly.

The menstrual cup must be removedat least 2 or 3 times a dayBetween menstrual periods, it is necessary to boil the cup to sterilize it.

You should also watch for signs of deterioration such as a sticky or powdery film, discoloration or odors.
